Cinabrese

Cinabrese is a term for skin color in the early Renaissance painting in Florence.
The similarity of the word with Cinabrium – cinnabar has led to many misunderstandings.
Typically Cinabrese is the mixture of Sinope, a bright red earth, e. g. our Venetian Red No. 40510, with Bianco San Genovese.
This mixture is suitable for water color and tempera.

It can be produced from a mixture of:
40510 Venetian Red
58490 Calcium Carbonate, natural

A glaze of Madder Lake with white lead can be painted on top.

PS:
In the movie: Botticelli, broadcast on Arte on 24 1. 2010, such as skin-colored mixture of Cinabrese is shown, with cinnabar and azurite, like it was used by Botticelli.
